SILLY STRINGS

The Mollohan Foundation presented a grant to the North Central West Virginia Community Orchestra Silly Strings Program of Marion County.  The Silly Strings Program promotes stringed instruments for the students of Marion County and provides musical lessons instructed by local music teachers.  The program provides safe, educational, wholesome, and fun activities for the students who have an interest in music.  Many of the students join Silly Strings and begin playing an instrument for the very first time.   The program allows the students to learn the different instruments and to perform what they have learned at the end of each school year.  Any student from the county can participate in the program, which currently has over 75 students.  The North Central West Virginia Community Orchestra has three different age groups including Silly Strings, Super Strings, and Sizzlin Strings.  These three groups meet throughout the school year and often perform at community events.  The grant will help the program buy new instruments so that they will have the ability to grow.  The grant was presented to the director, Cindy Davis, at the Silly Strings Spring Fling concert.
