Scholarship Loan Incentive Program (SLIP)

The Scholarship Loan Incentive Program was created by the Robert H. Mollohan Family Charitable Foundation in 2002 to further provide assistance that will help encourage talented West Virginia students to enter a career within their home state by offering loans at favorable terms with the option of debt forgiveness. Loans are made payable directly to the student and the college for the use of tuition, fees, books, and other educational expenses approved by the Foundation. In order to be eligible, you must be a Mollohan scholar with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 who demonstrates financial need.

If you are interested in applying for a loan from The Mollohan Foundation, please fill out the SLIP Application below and mail it to the address listed on our Contact page, or save the completed application and email it to us at info@mollohanfoundation.org. Yes, an annual application is required.

Students may apply for up to $2,000 per academic year. The maximum loan amount awarded will not exceed $8,000 or $2,000/year for four years.

After receiving a scholarship from the Foundation, a student may request a loan application. If the student is granted a loan, the student has the option to turn the borrowed amount into a scholarship requiring no repayment. A student’s loan will be forgiven up to $2,000 for each period of twelve consecutive months of full-time employment in a job that contributes to the development and advancement of the West Virginia economy. The borrower will have up to six months from the date of graduation to find employment in West Virginia before the loan repayment begins. However, if the student fails to work in West Virginia after college, the student will be required to repay the borrowed amount plus interest.

To be eligible, the following requirements must be met:

  • Must have attended high school in West Virginia
  • Must be a recipient of a Foundation scholarship
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
