Kids Chance of West Virginia

The Kids Chance of West Virginia is a non-profit organization that was incorporated in 1999 by a task force of business leaders.  The task force found a need for support for employees in the workers compensation arena, so the Kids Chance of West Virginia was started and designed to provide scholarships to students whose parents have been injured seriously on the job and can no longer work.  The scholarship recipients are chosen based on financial need, academic assistance, leadership skills, and involvement in the community.  In the past three years the program has awarded sixteen scholarships to students from the ages of fifteen to twenty-three.  The scholarships can be used to continue or further education at the secondary, post-secondary, or professional level.   The Robert H. Mollohan Foundation Community Grant Program gave the program a community grant, which will help them provide more scholarships for students in the year 2003.  The Kids Chance of West Virginia scholarships are administered by the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
