SCHOLARSHIPS

John M. Murphy Scholarship
The John M. Murphy Scholarship was established in 2004 by the family and friends of John Murphy. Mr. Murphy was born in Circleville, West Virginia. Although he no longer lives in the area, the Mountain State, specifically Pendleton County, continues to hold a special place in his heart. With this in mind, the scholarship was created to help a student from Pendleton County reach his/her dream of pursuing education beyond secondary school in the field of biology, environmental science, or ecology. The recipient of the John M. Murphy Scholarship will receive a $500 award that will be made payable directly to the student’s college at the start of the freshman year. It is the intent of the Scholarship Committee to assist the recipient in securing a summer internship experience in West Virginia focusing on the student’s area of career interest. The Scholarship Committee will forward the recipient’s credentials to selected companies; however, the final decision for internship employment will rest with the company and the student.
