3. How will I know if I received a scholarship?

  • Once we receive your completed application the Foundation will send you a letter stating that we have your application on file. Internships
  1. How do I get an internship?
  • After receiving a scholarship, you will be contacted by the Foundation to see if you are interested in a summer internship. If so, the Foundation will review each student’s interests and forward his/her resume to companies matching the student’s criteria. Individual companies have the final decision in hiring; therefore, the Foundation cannot guarantee that a student will receive an internship.

2. Where in West Virginia are the internships offered?

  • The Foundation will work with you to find placement in a location that best meets your needs. Typically, internships are sought in the student’s surrounding area. However, accommodations can be arranged for those interested in working away from home. For example, many summer internships are offered at the I-79 Technology Park, in Fairmont, so students can choose to live in the dorms at Fairmont State College.

3. Will I receive compensation for my internship?

  • Typically, the Foundation seeks paid summer positions for students; however, payment is determined by the company.

4. Can I earn academic credit for my internship?

  • It is the student’s responsibility to check with his/her school regarding requirements for academic credit.  Usually, schools require that a student provide evidence of the experience through a written report or journal in addition to paperwork completed by the working supervisor. The Foundation will help any student that needs assistance in working out the details.

5. How should I dress for work if I get an internship?

  • Each company has their own dress requirement. Students should check with the company to learn the policy.

6. What happens if I have college orientation or vacation scheduled in the summer?

  • Each student should notify his/her supervisor as early as possible of such events (preferably at the beginning of summer). Although the final decision rests with the company, most employers understand that summer is a student’s only time off.
