The Valley Ridge Studio, Inc. Receives Grant
Founded in 1991 by E. Reid Gilbert and Robin Pyle, Valley Ridge Studio, Inc. was created in a small storefront primarily as a venue for new or experimental theater works. This small establishment in Thomas eventually expanded its playing space, repertoire, and audience by converting a much larger storefront into a theater/gallery, and producing one-act and full-length plays in repertory throughout the summer. Since 2003, Valley Ridge Studio has produced 14 fully-staged productions, providing performance, directing, and design opportunities not only to professional artists from around the country, but also to over 30 local children and adults. Additionally, Valley Ridge continues to offer classes to children and adults; produced a play-reading series, an evening of one-act plays, and has continued to exhibit work from local artists in their gallery.

Valley Ridge Studio, Inc. exists as an arts organization dedicated to providing quality arts experiences to both the residents and visitors to Tucker County. With a particular emphasis on the performing arts, Valley Ridge offers professional and non-professional artists opportunities to develop and practice their craft in a professional, supportive environment. Thus, it is an on-going process that is growing. Valley Ridge Studio’s goals include becoming a year-round, professional theater company that maintains strong ties to the local community through education, outreach to isolated populations, and nurturing young, emerging artists.

To help Valley Ridge Studio, Inc. reach their goals, the Mollohan Foundation awarded $2,000 to Valley Ridge Studio, Inc. in 2005 to help fund a production of the famous C.S. Lewis work The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as well as a production of Pinter’s The Homecoming as part of the 2005 Family Series.
