The Fairview Library Committee received a $1,000 grant from the Robert H. Mollohan Family
Charitable Foundation, Inc. to assist in providing children’s programming and purchasing
books at the Fairview Public Library.
The Fairview Library Committee, Inc. is a small community-based organization of unpaid
volunteers that supports the public library in Fairview, West Virginia. The organization
was established in 1975 and has remained quite active. The seven member committee has
continued to function through the years with the primary purpose and mission of ensuring
library services for the Fairview area.
The committee organizes programs for children including: story time and circle time, puppet
shows, summer reading programs, and summer tutoring. Some adult programs include: craft
instruction groups, how to classes, senior game day, and adult literacy classes.
In 2003, a Main Street fire destroyed the building surrounding the Fairview Public Library
and drastically damaged the library building. The Fairview Library Committee began dedicating
its efforts to building a new home for the library. Although the outside construction is
now finished, the Library Committee is still working to restock the library’s shelves and
restart the former programs. The Robert H. Mollohan Family Charitable Foundation, Inc.
awarded the Fairview Library Committee a grant to help with this endeavor.
