Doddridge County High School Receives Grant
Doddridge County High School received a $5,660 community outreach grant from the Mollohan Foundation to purchase equipment for the school’s music program.

The goal and mission of the Doddridge County High School Music Department is to give every student a quality music education as directed by the West Virginia State Department of Education. The music education program at Doddridge County Middle School initiated a strings program which has proven immensely successful. Every student in the middle school participates in the strings program through the school’s music department. And, there are approximately 50 students currently in the middle school orchestra. Interest in continuing the strings program on the high school level has been strong, especially since many high school students return to the middle school to continue their instruction on an extracurricular basis.  As students reach the high school level, many wish to continue their instruction.

To that end, Doddridge County High School implemented a high school strings program in 2005. There will be a strings class during school where students will learn and improve their current skills on stringed instruments. During the spring semester of 2006, these students will use these skills in the newly formed Doddridge County High School Orchestra.

The Mollohan Foundation grant will fund the purchase of 10 violins, 6 violas, 4 basses, 6 music stands, strings, resin, cleaner, books, and sheet music. These additions will assist in presenting Doddridge County student musicians more opportunities for musical and academic success.
